The Ultimate Measure of a Man is a presentation and panel discussion designed to assist young men to better understand the principles, purpose and role of a man to improve the presence of men in American households.

Problem Impacted: In the United States, one-third of the households are fatherless. In the African American households 78% are fatherless. There have been many studies and reports that equate incarceration, poverty and low education numbers, especially with Black and Brown males with fatherless homes.

Who: Shaundell Newsome, father of eight children and mentor to many in the Southern Nevada community has studied this issue in neighborhoods where he has volunteered in since the 1990’s. Shaundell served on the board of the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas and Nevada Partners for over decade to serve in organization that fight poverty, social inequality and underserved communities. He also served on the board of Catholic Charities, Children’s Advocacy Alliance and as a youth leader at his church, Victory Baptist Church located on the Historic Westside, Las Vegas’ original Black settlement. Shaundell invites men from the community to share their experiences, trauma and coping skills in an effort show young men how they can be leaders in their homes and neighborhoods.
