KING WEEK LAS VEGAS - 2013

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee of Las Vegas is celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with its 31st Annual Birthday Celebration Parade.  The Committee was founded in November 1981 celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by keeping the dream alive.

The 2013 Theme is “Living the Dream: Dream with a Vision; Live with a Purpose.”

"When we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every State and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: ‘Free at last, Free at last, Thank God Almighty, we are free at last.'" -- Martin Luther King, Jr., Lincoln Memorial, 1963.

Longtime Las Vegas community servants Lillian McMorris and Reverend Dr. Marion Bennett will serve as the Grand Marshals for the upcoming 31st annual MLK Parade and King Week celebration; and for the first time in the parade's history a public entity will serve as the Honorary Grand Marshal; KCEP Power 88 has been selected for that honor as they celebrate their 40th year of broadcasting. All of our Grand Marshals were selected because of their commitment to our community.

Freedom, equality and justice were tenets that our founding fathers embraced and we celebrate as a community to demonstrate our continued commitment to those values.  The 31st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Banquet will be help on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at The Orleans Hotel and the Parade will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013 in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada.
